Bury AC’s two Loughborough students, Jay Cook and Rosella Togo, competed at the University’s open meeting on Saturday where Cook set a season’s best of 12.57secs placing sixth in his 100m heat and then won his shot competition with a putt of 13.26m.

Togo took third place in her 200m heat, setting a new personal best of 25.09.

Ten-year-old Ethan Statham scorched round the 5k Heaton Parkrun course on Saturday morning, setting a new PB of 18mins 32secs, taking 12th place overall. As he is currently under 11, parkrun rules dictate he must run with an adult and Rob Fowler was supportive in this role crossing the line just behind the talented youngster but credited with the same time.

Parkrun no longer officially recognise record times, however the Bury youngster is by far the fastest 10-year-old to have competed.

Other results: Martin Clark 17:38, Oliver Kirby 18:57PB (17th), Alia Braithwaite 18:59 (first woman), Matthew Garside 18:59, Curtis Simpson 19:10, Katie Geelan 20:02 (second woman), Nicola Ryan 20:12 (third woman), Lucy Dent 20:32 (fourth woman), Sarah Flett 21:56.

Five Bury AC members competed in the London Marathon with postman Jordan Harreld celebrating his birthday raising much-needed funds for the club and finishing in 3:00:20. Sinead Taylor, making her debut over the distance, ran a superb 3:08:08, covering the second half of the course faster than the first, while Jenny Badger ran a new PB, crossing the line in 3:11:06.
