A THREE-YEAR-OLD girl was taken to hospital after being hit by a car on Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to the junction of Ainsworth Road and Robert Street at around 4.10pm on Sunday, after the child was hit by a Vauxhall Mokka.

An air ambulance was called to the scene, before the girl was taken by road to North Manchester General Hospital.

A police spokesman said that her injuries were not thought to be serious, and she is now said to be recovering well.

No arrests were made at the scene.

A nearby shopkeeper, who witnessed the aftermath of the incident, said: "When I came down, I saw about three ambulances, police cars, and the air ambulance above.

"They were there for about two hours and I saw there was a little girl being treated, but she was sitting up and she didn't seem to be badly injured. If it had been more serious, then she would have gone to hospital straight away."
