Delays expected as major gas repairs take place

DRIVERS will face more than two months of roadwork misery as 300 metres of gas pipes are replaced.

National Grid is carrying out the work in Radcliffe as part of multi-million pound improvements to the North-west's gas supply.

Work started in Sion Street and Phoenix Way on Tuesday and will take around 10 weeks to complete. Existing metallic mains replaced with plastic ones and will have a lifespan of up to 80 years.

The work is part of a national project agreed with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for replacing metallic mains across Britain, which will see 15,000km of gas pipe renewed over the next eight years.

John Edwards, Manager of the North West Gas Alliance said: "We need to renew these gas mains so that local people can continue to take their gas supplies for granted.

"We hope that people will have patience with us while we carry out this essential work - there will be disruption in the short term, but the end result will be a safe and reliable gas supply."

The truth hurts and that is why they don't want us talking about Wanderers. It's because people have a pop at Sharrock and co for poor journalism and a lack of guts to tell the truth about the goings on behind the scenes at the Reebok.

We want our comments back so the idiots who are in charge of our towns football club get the message.

Come on Bolton News show some true journalistic reporting and get your reporters to lay into the board and manager on behalf of the fans.

Most Wanderers supporters (including me) buy the Bolton News but I will not buy it anymore.

A bit like certain football clubs this paper is owned by Americans. Americans who have no interest in stirring up any trouble because it might reduce advertising revenue. Freedom of the press and freedom of speech. Don’t make me laugh………..
