Radcliffe Townswomen’s Guild The meeting in February of the Radcliffe Townswomen’s Guild welcomed speaker Margaret Curry who continued her fascinating tale of the life of Beatrix Potter. Margaret original visited the guild in 2011 explaining the history of the family and their influence in Bolton. This time she started her talk when Beatrix had found her talent for writing and illustrating and how she flourished in the lake district.

There are ten members of the guild attending the Federation Spring Lunch which this year will be held at the Longfield Suite in Prestwich on 18th April. A Mezzo soprano will provide the entertainment with songs from the shows and light classical favourites.

The charity for 2011was Bury Cancer Support Group and the guild has raised £1,048 to date. A cheque will presented to a representative from the charity at the AGM in March. It is hoped that Stanley Gilbert may be available as it was he who generated the interest in this worthwhile cause.

The post card competition theme this year is UK wildlife. Post cards are to be sent to the secretary throughout the year and will be judged in November.

Those who are taking advantage of the Guild holiday in October need to pay a £20 deposit at the March meeting.

Members have been invited to a Social Evening on Wednesday 18th April at St Mary’s Social Club. The price of £3.50 includes entertainment and supper and a lively evening has been promised.

The next meeting of this active and friendly Guild will be the AGM on Wednesday 28th March . After the business meeting, when the committee and executors are elected, there will be games and a few laughs. The Easter hat competition will be judged and three prizes awarded for the prettiest, most colourful and most amusing bonnet.

KT Thank you – you are a boon to our guild creating much interest.
