During her talk on woodland ecology Dr. Irene Ridge described how the fungi in the soil enabled the roots of growing trees to take in water and vital nutrients from the soil.

The field trip to Healey Dell was excellent for the bird watchers in the group. A pair of buzzards were circling high in the sky when we arrived and we saw and heard a green woodpecker as we walked through the woodland.

At 7-30pm Wednesday April 4th in the Memorial Room of the Longfield Suite, Prestwich Arlene Harris will give her intriguingly titled talk A Badger Under The Sink.

Sunday April 15th is the date for our next field trip and the group will be going to Grimwith Reservoir in the Yorkshire Dales.

More trees have been planted at the nature reserve in Summerseat.
