The last few weeks seem to have been a continued battle against Chorlton teams, and the Bury second team already had a difficult task when they turned up one player short to meet Chorlton fifth. Roger Nuttall and Steven Press gave Bury some hope with solid draws, followed by an endgame win by Jim Litherland on top board. But Syd Forrester lost to a strong opponent, and Lee Baron went wrong to put the home side in a winning lead. Team captain Jeremy Peach, with his opponent in time trouble, was too anxious to force a win on the clock, blundered himself, and lost. A disappointing scoreline failed once again to reflect the closeness of the contest, and Bury hit the bottom of the League table.
