An Audio Visual (AV) feast welcomed guest judge John Smith APAGB CPAGB of Rochdale Camera Club, on Tuesday 20th March, to judge our annual AV competition.

With 9 AV’s of varying styles including documentary, landscapes, record, musical, and comedic, it was no easy task to choose the winners, with 1 commended and 2 highly commended narrowly missing out.

Third place went to John Thompson with ‘Alpine Seasons’, an excellently constructed sequence of images taking the viewer on tour of the Alpine region. With quality images filled with snow-capped peaks, lush green valleys and meandering rivers, the author’s technical expertise was well demonstrated.

Second Place went to Jack Heathcote with ‘Manchester Ramblers’, a documentary-style presentation detailing the historic event of the mass trespass of Kinder Scout in 1932. A combination of historic & modern images woven together with the folk music of Ewan MacColl, and well-spoken commentary, the superb sequence brought the story to life.

First place went to Michael Oates with ‘Noise’, a well thought through story following the subject drifting in and out of a series of documentaries, from the intense noise of Manchester City centre and its traffic, sirens, and construction noise, to the tranquillity of Ennerdale Water and its stunning vistas. Filled with excellent photos with well-matched sound effects and commentary, the author’s skill shone through with an enjoyable sequence.

Meetings are held on Tuesdays from 7.30p.m at Bridge Methodist Hall, behind Radcliffe Library. New members are always welcome. Visit our website prestwichcc.com for further information.
