The March meeting of the Radcliffe Townswomen’s Guild was their Annual General Meeting. The meeting started with the presentation of a cheque for £1,050 to Stanley Gilbert who represented Bury Cancer Support Unit which is based in Tottington. This was the chosen charity of the guild in 2011 and the money was raised by holding a strawberry cream tea, sundry sales, and the sales of a quiz sheet. Mr Gilbert thanked the guild for such a generous cheque and the hard work involved in raising the money.

After the presentation the accounts were examined and agreed. The chairman then gave a summary of last years activities which included all the monthly speakers, the outings to the theatre, the visits to other guilds, the meals out, the trips and the annual holiday to St Annes. The members of the committee were thanked for their hard work and the new committee for 2013 was elected.

After the business meeting there was a parade of the members wearing their home made Easter bonnets. Over twenty members took part in the parade and prizes were then presented to Anne Derby(most amusing) Nora Otter (most colourful) and Doreen Handley (prettiest). This was a fun competition enjoyed by those who took part.

The trip to the Lowry theatre to see Wonderful Town was enjoyed by eleven members. The next theatre trip will be organised at the April meeting.

The charity cream tea will be held on Wednesday 6th June at the Bridge Methodist church starting at 2pm. Everyone would be made most welcome and the proceeds will be put towards this year’s charity which is in support of the Macmillan Nurses.

The guild has been invited to Alkrington Guild on Wednesday 2 May for an opening evening starting at 7.30pm.

The next meeting of this friendly and active guild will be on Wednesday 25 April starting at 7.30pm at the Bridge Methodist Church which is behind the library. Jack Heathcote will be showing an audio video display of his work which is always a favourite with the members. Roses will be on sale to celebrate St Georges day and to start the fund raising for the charity. Visitors and guests would be made most welcome.
