THREE teenagers got together to sound off about the dangers of binge drinking with a conference for young people.

Brothers Zaeem and Zaman Kala, aged 16 and 18, along with cousin Sufiyan Kala, aged 14, organised a Bin the Binge conference after winning a £2,400 grant to raise awareness of alcohol misuse.

With the cash from Changemakers-Y, they sought to tackle the issue in the Rumworth area of Bolton.

The three organisers used a series of creative interactive workshops which involved acting and singing, attended by around 50 young people.

Participants acted out a warning advertisement about the dangers of binge drinking using a life-sized cut out of a man showing which areas of the body were affected.

A song written by the conference attendees was also performed.

Zaman said: "We had a really good turnout and everyone seemed engaged in the activities we put on. We now hope to take the message to other young people in Bolton."

The event was attended by Dr Brian Iddon, MP for Bolton South-east, and Margaret Blenkinsop, director of children's services at Bolton Council.

The conference was arranged after an eight-week consultation that the group undertook into alcohol misuse. Findings were presented at the event.

Ms Blenkinsop said: "The conference was hard hitting, thought provoking and really impressed the dangers of binge drinking upon its audience."
