A group of enterprising youngsters from Bury aim to hit the high notes, low notes and especially the loud notes with a charity rock concert at The Met tomorrow night, which will also feature Fury UK.

The eight-strong team organising the event: Andrew Lane (16), Thomas Moses (16), Mike Atkins (15), Jenny Ball (16), Luc Le Blanc (14), Daniel Newton (15), Hannah Anderson (16), and Niall Smalley (16) are from the Duke of Edinburgh's Democracy Group in Bury.

They came up with the idea of a rock concert to raise money when they were told there were no funds available for an award presentation evening for Bury's Duke of Edinburgh Award participants, which is planned for November.

Volunteer group leader Wendy Gess said: "The Democracy Group's aim is to look at things that can be improved to benefit participants of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Bury.

The group felt it would be unfair not to hold a presentation evening for participants to celebrate achieving a bronze, silver or gold award and so they decided to do something to ensure their peers' efforts were recognised."

The group sprang into action contacting The Met in Bury to ask for their help with providing a venue for the charity event and then gained the support of local rock band Fury UK to feature at the gig.

Three other young bands - Astrix, The Humanity Project and Void The Warranty - will act as the support acts.

Tickets are on sale at The Met for £4 or can be bought online. Visit www.themet.biz or contact Wendy Gess on 07715480628.

l Fury UK also play the Hark To Towler in Tottington on August 18 before leaving for Norway, where they will play five dates including the capital Oslo.

Lead guitarist and vocalist Chris Appleton says: "The Norway tour is something we've all been looking forward to and is a great chance to play our first international dates."
