Do you think it is right that the landlord of the Duke William pub in Ainsworth has been ordered to pull down a smoking shelter which had been built without planning permission?

Single rate for minimum wage – MP

BOLTON North-east MP David Crausby is calling on the Government to introduce a single rate for the national minimum wage.

The rate for workers aged 21 and over was raised in October to £5.52 an hour.

Younger people aged between 18 and 21 must be paid at least £4.60 an hour, while those aged 16 and 17 are entitled to £3.40 an hour.

Mr Crausby has added his support to a campaign led by the Unite trade union.

He said: "It is unfair that young workers are paid less than the full adult national minimum wage for, in many cases, doing the same work."

Fair enough, the same could be said for EU workers also. National Minimum should apply to EVERYBODY working in the UK regardless.

I must correct myself, EU workers are entitled to the national minimum wage it's just not enforced a lot of the time. Due to some agencys.

There's also the fact that many of these EU workers are working illegally and are happy to accept less than minimum.

every country in the EU has a minimum wage but the level of that wage is set by the countries own Parliament so it will either be higher or lower than the UK's!!!

This was another good peice of work by the EU to set up the minimum wage so that it tries to get everybody off the poverty line!!!

How can EU workers work illeaglly when there is free movement of people and work within the EU - what you say is a contradiction as an EU worker cannot work illegally within another EU country!!!!

Try telling that to the firm next door to where I work. They just got hammered for employing illegal workers, most of them from the EU.

I was refering to EU nationals working within the UK. They are subject to the same Minimum wage as everybody else which is good. The only problem is it appears these People are being exploited by Agencies and unless the workers speak up the Law can't be enforced. But thats a different story.

NMW is a legally binding hourly rate of pay:
Aged 22+ £5.52 per hr
Aged 18-21 £4.60
Aged 16+17 £3.40
If anyone isnt getting what they are entitled ring the HMRC confidential helpline for advice 0845 6000 678.
Your employer cant use any excuse such as you are on piecework rates or you arent as good as a colleague. The rates apply to everyone from 16 to the day you stop working whatever age it is!

This government introduced age discrimination in employment legislation, back in oct 2006.

Although the government have included clauses to make this particular form of age discrimination legal. It flies in the face of the ethos of what this legislation was brought in to do.

I think £3.40 is disgusting for someone of 16 or 17 years old... it's nothing less than child labour rates. Everyone should get a min wage of £5.00 regardless of age.

If you're doing the same job you should get the same pay, regardless of age, gender, race or inside leg measurement!

The employers should be hammered - they're breaking minimum wage law, not forgetting, presumably, avoiding NI contributions and the PAYE and NI contributions of their illegal employees.

Many jobs paying only minimum wage are worth far more being payed a minimum wage £5.52 means I can eat or pay my bills without support I cannot survive 10hr days, 6 days a week requires food

i beleive it is grossly unfair that there are three different minimum wages after the introduction of the age discrimination act in 2006. i beleive that this discrimination law unlike all other discrimination laws only applies to one group, old people. a race discrimination act does not apply only to a group of selected races so why is it so with age. i also beleive young people are being discriminated against by the working tax credit system inplemented by her majestys revenue and customs which refuses to grant tax credits to anyone under the age of 25 unless they have a child or meet other criteria, however if you are over 25 you do not need chidren or to meet any other criteria age is enough. it is statistically proven that young drivers cause more accidents on roads than elder drivers, this is reflected in the price of insurance. i do strongly beleive that if it was statistically proven that eastern european, jewish or diabled drivers were more likely to cause accidents on our roads then it would be illegal to reflect this in their insurance quotes. just as it has been proven statistically that black people in certain areas of london are more likely to be carrying guns and knifes, this does not give the poice the right to stop and search more blacks than whites.
