AS DEBUT albums go, this is pretty special.
Beggar Joe, the Manchester-based quintet has delivered an album that lives up to all their promise.
Produced by Al Stone, who was the man behind Jamiroquai’s 10 million selling ‘Travelling Without Moving’, the 13 tracks contained on the CD sum up what the band is all about.
Formed at Salford University, the ‘Street Soul Guys’, as they are known around Manchester, have already seen success in Italy, China and the US; and their fans regularly post footage of the band on Youtube.
The influences are many and varied, with a heady mix of blues and jazz; the whole thing is topped off with the raw vocal power of frontman and main songwriter Jon Kenzie.
Tracks like the strong opener ‘Puppet King’ and the double A-sided single ‘Ain’t No Way’ / ‘Sleeping City’ show that this band are a force to be reckoned with.
With the enthusiasm born of a desire to win and a love of music, Beggar Joe can’t go wrong.
