A NEW old school and house classics night is launching in Bolton next week.

Vocal will kick off at The Corner Club, Bradshawgate, on Friday, December 5, with special guests Nick Hussey, who has written and produced for many artists since 1990, and Bolton DJ Davos Live.

Organiser Lance 'Superfly' Cunningham, who lives in Farnworth, said: "There's no real funky house/ old school nights going on but there is a market for it.

"I know lots of people who are into that sort of stuff.

"I've been DJ-ing now for 18 years.

"I've played at clubs all over the UK and I used to play in Ibiza every year."

Lance's father was a Motown and funk DJ, in the 1970s and 1980s, known as Superfly, who inspired his son to follow in his footsteps and take his name.

He said: "The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree — so they say — as I acquired his passion for music and skill on decks.

"Many a night I would be stood on the Wigan Pier dance floor thinking, 'That was a bad mix’ or ‘they should have mixed something else in there’.

"So that’s what made me start. I wanted to take the knowledge that I had picked up on the dance floor into the DJ booth.

"As a person I love all types of music but as a DJ my passion is house.

"I have played all types throughout the years, from Latin house all the way through to techno but my favourite has always been deep house — the groovier the better.

"I have played at many clubs throughout my career some small some large. I have even graced a few beaches and festivals, Glastonbury being my crowning achievement."

Special guest Davos had his first piano lesson in 1980, his last in 1983, and has been self taught ever since.

Now an accomplished producer, live keyboardist and remixer, Davos came to public attention in late 2012 when a video of his performance of a medley of early '90s house classics hit YouTube and went viral, notching up more than 120,000 hits in the first week.

Other DJs playing the Corner Club include Vicki Etherton, creator of online TV show Ears Wide Open.

She has played some of the finest venues around in the UK and Europe but is looking forward to going back to her roots of vocal house at The Corner Club.

Resident John Rogers, aged 25, has been spinning the decks since the age of 14.

He has played at some of the North West's most iconic venues, including the Manchester Academy and Bowlers, as well as other night clubs in and around Manchester and Bolton.

He can be seen every Friday at The Corner Club where he plays the biggest house tracks, both old and new.
