FROM house music classics to disco and funk, a club night is gearing up to grace the decks of a Bolton venue.

Coco Loco presents Era will be at The Corner Club, Bradshawgate, Bolton, on Saturday night.

Billed as a "safe haven for veteran party animals and alike", the DJs for the night will be Danny Whitehead, Steve Robinson, Lance Cunningham and Rich Whitehead.

Danny, an Ibiza DJ who has appeared at Cafe Mambo, has previously held the night at other venues in the town centre, including Carbon Bar.

Danny, who has played sets before and after the likes of Sasha, Leftfield, Carl Cox, David Morales and Erick Morillo, said: "It's the first one at the Corner Club.

"We have been watching how it's been going there.

"It's been open over a year and they have not had an incident in that time."

Also behind the decks will be Steve, aka Spam, who co-ran the Funkymunky underground house nights in the '90s.

The nights were mainly played at the Unity Centre, Johnson Street, but there were also regular events at Hawthorne's Nightclub, Spa Road, Temple, the Boardwalk in Manchester, Revolution and the Ministry of Sound's Northern dates.

Speaking of Bolton's clubbing scene, Danny said: "Through the mid to late '90s, it kind of grew quite a bit and there were a lot of popular homegrown nights and people would even travel from Manchester and Wigan to Bolton for the nights.

"It kind of seemed to get a bit quieter around 2006."

He says he has seen a resurgence in the last couple of years, with people going out who would enjoy the nights first time around.

He said: "I have still been working clubs so I have seen the change.

"It's a lot sparser now. I think a lot of people are going to the Warehouse Project and nights like that."

The other DJs on the night will be Lance 'Superfly' Cunningham, from Souled Out, and Coco Loco's Rich Whitehead, playing vintage house classics.

Lance, who lives in Farnworth, recently launched his own night at the Corner Club playing old school and house classics.

Doors are 9pm to 3am and tickets cost £7 in advance.
