THE line-up has been announced for this year’s Festwich music event, which will feature a host of top tribute acts to the world’s best rock and roll bands.

The festival will feature more than 40 lives acts over two days at St Mary’s Park in Prestwich at the end of July – all for free.

Saturday will feature slots from Whole Lotta DC, Guns or Roses, Mentallica and Motorheadache, and on Sunday Flew Fighters, Kings Ov Leon, Viva La Coldplay and Aladdinsane – a David Bowie tribute act to mark the death of the singer earlier this month.

Other acts include Megadeth UK, Faith No Man, Victim of a Down, South of Heaven, Troops of Doom, Loyal Blood, Mused, Extra Specials, Bon Jovie, Mostly Madness, Daft Punx and Reet Hot Chilli Peppers.

Some of the bands will perform on the newly named Lemmy stage, marking the death of Motorhead singer and bassist Lemmy Kilmister.

Organiser Jools Taylor is delighted with the success of the free festival, which is now in its fifth year and will take place on July 30 and 31.

He said: “I am delighted with this year’s line-up and can’t wait for the event. Some bands have played with us before while for some it will be their first time. There’s a real mixed bag – hard rock, indie, ska and even dance from Daft Punx, who are from Whitefield.

“Pre-registration for tickets is going really well and we expect all tickets to go in record time.”

The festival will also be increasing its daily capacity from 7,500 to 10,000 people.

He said: “Since it started, Festwich has become popular through word of mouth rather than from big advertising campaigns as we only tend to put information online, so our growth has been pretty organic.

“We are really pleased we have increased the number of people we can have at Festwich. The plan was always to do that at some point. But we don’t want to grow any bigger – we want to keep it nice and comfortable for those who do attend, without too much queueing for toilets.”
