OPENING the evening was a three piece alternative post-punk act, Liines.

An all-girl band, their attacking sound attracted the ears of all the festival's early birds. Aggressive and full, the trio made the almost empty Smaller Rooms Stage tent seem claustrophobic with their sonic salutations to Seattle grunge; the vocalist’s cries of desperation also reminiscent of Manchester punk act Joy Division, a comparison they were thrilled by.

Despite their somewhat limiting guitar/bass/drums format, they sustain their raucous sound throughout their set, particularly in their performance of their new single, an almost post-punk revolution of the dancefloor.

Their new single, set for release in late October, is to be launched at their upcoming gig at Manchester's Aatma, a smaller venue they consider themselves 'suited to', saying that they are 'looking forward to the intensity' of the small venue.
