A BOLTON band is preparing to enter a professional recording studio for the first time.

It may be the festive season, but Girls Girls Girls aren't planning on taking any breaks after a busy year touring.

While many will be settling down for Christmas, the trio of former Canon Slade pupils are writing and preparing new material.

In January they will celebrate the New Year by hitting the recording studio to work with Scruff of the Neck Records, an independent record label based in Manchester.

It will precede the release of their first professionally recorded song - I Want to be Your Rival.

Drummer Will Wolstenholme said: “We’ve had a very busy year,. There was our tour in summer with eight gigs in three months where we went all over Manchester.

“We didn’t really get going until we got our demo out in January then another in August.

“The demos really helped helped to get us out there for gigs over the summer and hopefully this recording will have a similar effect, if not better.

“Our first recordings we did were of a lower quality, we did them ourselves to help get into decent venues, so the next one will be another step up for us.”

The band formed in August 2015 and is made up of singer and guitarist Sam Steele, bassist Danny Morgan and Will.

First recording, Warning Signs, has already attracted more than 1,300 hits on music streaming site Soundcloud and the band has played gigs including Bolton’s E Fest and the Pop Up Winter Festival in Sale, as well as their mini tour of Manchester.

As well as the gigs, they have started getting noticed on bigger public platforms and have been nominated for Y Not Festival’s Band App Shortlist 2016 and listed as one of Fred Perry Subculture’s ‘20 Manchester Bands You Need To Hear Now’.

The rock ‘n’ roll three-piece were praised for their “classic North-West guitar and vocal sound”.

They have been compared to the likes of The Beatles, Jake Bugg and Arctic Monkeys.

Will added: “The shows have improved and we have improved as musicians. We have improved artistically and hopefully that will show during the recording.

“I look back at gigs we played at the start of the year and notice how much our live performance has strengthened.

“We are trying to make every step count.”

This week they have not stopped, taking to a rehearsal room for six hours to sharpen up their performance.

I Want to be Your Rival has been their song of choice for the closing shows this summer and is described as a “slow piece which builds in energy”.

Following the recording the track, where they are working with producer Richard Lomax, will be put out on general release.

“Recording songs is a great way to get your sound out and there and has really helped us,” Will explained.

“We are not in it to “make it, we are just in this to enjoy ourselves and if it goes anywhere then that’s great!”
