BURY band Elbow is hoping to add another string to its bow today by winning a prestigious songwriting award.

The award winning band has been shortlisted for an Ivor Novello Award.

Elbow has been nominated for best song musically and lyrically for Magnificent (She Says) alongside Sampha's (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano and Everything Everything's Can't Do.

The Ivors celebrate excellence in British and Irish songwriting and composing.

In 2008, Elbow won the Mercury Music Prize for their album The Seldom Seen Kid, and in 2009 they won the Brit Award for Best British Group.

Ed Sheeran has two songs, which he co-wrote, in the running for most performed work, Castle On The Hill and Shape Of You.

He competes against Rag 'n' Bone Man's Human in the category.
