SUMMER is here and there is nothing us Brits love more than a rocking festival.

Hundreds of music lovers from Bolton and beyond are set to gather for the return of the ever popular Punk Picnic at Queens Park and the Alma Inn, tomorrow.

Celebrating the best that grassroots punk rock and oi, past and present, has to offer, the sold out festival sees 15 bands perform across two indoor and outdoor stages.

This year’s headliners, New York City’s The Violators and 70s Manchester DIY outfit The Drones will be joined artists including Half Charge, Fat Albert, Billyclub, up and coming heavy-weights The Scumbrians and grungey surf-punk band Litterbug.

There will also be an outdoor picnic and gathering before the bands take to the stage.

The festival has been organised by Punkboot Promotions, set up by Martin Unsworth and Angelina Johnson to raise the profile of the genre’s underground.

Last summers event saw dozens rock up to the Queens Park picnic and more than 200 people at the Bradshawgate pub — recently voted the North West’s best small rock venue.

Mr Unsworth said: " All the arrangements have been made and everyone seems to be in high spirits in anticipation of the day. The bands are happy to be on such a well turned out event and with no end of bands showing interest to play this and future events. Tickets sold out in April and Bolton punks have made a massive contribution in buying tickets to support the Picnic gig as have all the people that have contributed a few quid of heard earned cash to see some great bands. The weather forecast for tomorrow may be miserable but the only sight at the event will be happy smiling faces."
