THESE boys at Radcliffe County Grammar Secondary School are learning the art of fishing — on dry land.
Teacher Arnold Patefield showed pupils how to handle rods and lines, sitting in the middle of the school football field.
It may look fishy, but staff apparently suggested it was best to learn away from the water, back in March 1968.
Mr Patefield believed theory to be every bit as important as practice when it came to making complete angler out of school boys.
But according to the Bury Times at the time, some pupils were lucky enough to be allowed to make it to the banks of a local canal for a spot of angling — namely Phillip Brown and Alan Harrison.
