T’S Love Your Local Market fortnight from May 15 until May 29 — and Bury Market has plenty of plans to entertain all.
The campaign — by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) — is now in its second year, providing a spotlight for markets such as the one in Bury.
It’s hoped that more than 3,000 new traders will be attracted during the two weeks, while highlighting the importance of markets in the heart of the community.
Graham Wilson OBE, chief executive of NABMA, said: “Love Your Local Market is the biggest market event in a generation.
“It gives people the chance of a new career and demonstrates how important the market is to the local community.
“With the financial backing of the Government and our headline sponsor, HMY Radfords, we intend to make Love Your Local Market 2013 the biggest and best market campaign the UK has ever seen.”
If you visit Bury Market and feel in need of sustenance, head for the BBQ Barn in the Market Hall and try their sandwiches from the carvery from just £1. There’s also a student special — two hot and spicy chicken steaks with a choice of sauce, served on a barmcake, with a drink, for £2. The market day special to take home is a roasted chicken with a ham shank for just £5.
Meanwhile breakfast is served at Valerie’s Famous Cafe in the Market Hall, well known for its friendly service and atmosphere. This is a traditional cafe, offering a free tea or coffee with a traditional breakfast.
