HE Rock, Bury, is continuing its summer celebrations throughout August with its Summer Days: Summer Nights events programme which is back again this weekend providing free entertainment during the school holidays.

The second event theme, Grease is the Word, not only marks the 35th anniversary of the iconic film, but celebrates the vibrancy of 1950s American diners which were a popular hangout for teens.

Head over to The Rock Diner, located near the Leisure Complex off Rochdale Road, and hang-out with the Pink Ladies and T-Birds from noon until 7pm over the weekend.

Beginning tomorrow from 10am to 4pm children are invited to make a T-Birds badge or Pink Ladies hair slide in the free craft activity.

Staff from the educational centre, Explore Learning, will be playing games and handing out goodie bags to children – demonstrating that learning maths and English can be fun.

On Saturday and Sunday, join the Pink Ladies and T-Birds on stage as they showcase the best in leisure and retail activities: n Wake up and shake up with the Fit for Free outdoor exercise class n Have a go at outdoor ten-pin bowling on AMF’s inflatable bowling alley n Try some delicious Italian-American samples from the menu at Frankie & Benny’s n Find out about this season’s key fashion trends with River Island n Nando’s chicken man will be on the loose and letting you try some delicious samples from the menu n Join the children’s disco and dance to the Grease soundtrack.

There will also be something extra special for visitors to take part in. Small clay T-Birds will be hidden around The Rock in various locations. Find one and keep it. Photograph it and tag to therockbury on Facebook and twitter, and the image will be displayed in the online gallery.

The Rock Digital Photo Booth will back again. This time shoppers can have their photo taken against the Grease diner backdrop. It’s all free and you will receive a print-out of your holiday snap which will also be displayed on The Rock’s Facebook page. Arnold Wilcox-Wood, centre director at The Rock, said: “The first event weekend went extremely well with interest in all of the activities. Pum Thai’s cooking demonstration was a fantastic draw, along with the fashion show courtesy of River Island, and expert hair advice from Toni & Guy.

“We’ve had great feedback about the digital photo-booth and lots of images were uploaded to our Facebook page. People actually felt they were on holiday!”
