A masterclass in meta-drama will take the stage in Colwyn Bay next week.

Prestatyn's Centre Stage Theatre Co are making their return to Theatr Colwyn for two nights on Wednesday, May 30 and Thursday 31 for their production of A Chorus of Disapproval.

A brilliantly observed comedy written by award winning playwright Alan Ayckbourn in 1984, A Chorus of Disapproval was adapted to the screen five years later by Michael Winner with a cast of acting heavyweights including Anthony Hopkins, Jeremy Irons and Prunella Scales.

The plot centres on the the Pendon Players and their efforts to stage their latest production, John Gay's ballad opera The Beggar's Opera.

As in all amateur productions, problems with casting, extra marital affairs, in fighting and jealousy make on stage director Dafydd's job very difficult particularly as the plot begins to mirrors his own life and its songs take a leap from page into the players own dramas.

Rob Armstrong, real life off stage co-director and starring as Daffyd, said: "It's quite uncanny, the plot is reflecting real life ,we have had quite a few unforeseen circumstances leading to changes of cast and re-scheduling the show dates.

"I'm yet to find out if there is any extra marital affairs going on though. Of course the show must go on at any cost."

To see how it all works out, A Chorus of Disapproval will be at Theatr Colwyn on Wednesday, May 30 and Thursday 31 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10, with concessions, and are available via theatrcolwyn.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01492 577888.
