Two new wave legends are about to come together in Rhyl to set the pace – and tastes – once more.

Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will be joined by Soft Cell’s Marc Almond at the Pavilion on Friday, July 20 on their mission of spreading electrifying live music around the country.

A founding member of ‘80s band Squeeze, Holland has continued to establish himself through his incredibly energetic performance style, incorporating his infectious enthusiasm for new sounds and tireless dedication to introducing British music lovers to hidden gems.

He formed The Jools Holland Big Band, comprising himself and Gilson Lavis, in 1987.

This has gradually metamorphosed into the current 19-piece outfit, which consists of pianist, organist, drummer, three female vocalists, guitar, bass guitar, two tenor saxophones, two alto saxophones, baritone saxophone, three trumpets, and three trombones.

Along with epic live performances, Jools has cultivated the coolest of collaborative circles, creating the multi-million-selling Jools Holland and Friends series, featuring the likes of Chrissie Hynde, George Harrison, Norah Jones, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Bono, Joe Strummer, Robert Plant, Smokey Robinson, Ringo Starr and Peter Gabriel.

Special guest Almond will lend his 36 years of experience to the ensemble, bringing a list of hit songs including Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, Touch and, of course, Tainted Love into the fold of the band’s already awe-inspiring repertoire.

Yet while he is perhaps more familiar ceding the spotlight on his BBC Two shows, Later...with Jools Holland, and New Year’s Eve special, The Hootenanny, behind the piano, the maestro is every inch the equal to any star he joins on stage.

Rounding off the band will be special guest vocalists Ruby Turner, Louise Marshall and Rosie Mae.

Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will be at the Pavilion on Friday, July 20 at 7.30pm.

Ticket prices range from £37.50 to £45, and are available by visiting rhylpavilion.co.uk or by calling the box office on 01745 330000.
