I read your article in this weeks Radcliffe Times regarding Bury Council's response for free parking with mounting anger.

Rochdale Council suggest a system, which they have in place, whereby the first three hours are free and has proved to improve footfall.

Bury's response that parking in the town centre is the only place in the borough that charges...yes, we know! It is the town centre where people shop!

Radcliffe and other towns are free of charge because there is nothing to go there for in the way of shopping. Surely Bury Council take the prize for stating the obvious.

Because there is free parking in Radcliffe, it has resulted in the town becoming the largest Metrolink car park in the borough...people drive from Bury to park, but don't stop to spend money here...Bury cleans up on that score.

At the Primary Care Centre, which is near to the Metrolink station, patients and other users struggle to park on their car park because of Metrolink passengers.

It's high time Bury Council started thinking of the ratepayers and gave consideration to Rochdale's proposal and stopped trying to make money from people who come to Bury to spend money in the shops and on the market.
