WE were very pleased to hear about the amendment proposed by the Labour councillors in Bury to the Air Quality Motion brought by the Conservatives at the Council Meeting on April 19.

In particular, we note that the Labour Group wishes to tackle the terrible air pollution in our borough “by retaining our green spaces and countryside”.

We take it from this, that in the face of such opposition from the public, the Labour Group has had a change of heart about its support for the plans within the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework to build upon vast swathes of our greenbelt.

Moreover, we trust that we may rely upon this pledge and that the Labour Group will actively seek to protect our countryside both now and following the forthcoming elections.
