Sam hopes to be borough's youngest councillor
Conservative Sam Hurst will fight for the Radcliffe East seat
Conservative Sam Hurst will fight for the Radcliffe East seat

STUDENT Sam Hurst is hoping to become the borough's youngest ever councillor.

For the 20-year-old has been selected to stand for the Conservative party in Radcliffe East in the local elections this year.

A former pupil of Cams Lane Primary School and Coney Green High School, Sam is currently studying environmental geography at Salford University.

He wants to encourage young people to get involved with politics and improve life for people living in the town.

Sam said: "I believe that young people are unnecessarily detached from politics and I want to encourage more young people to get involved with local issues affecting their communities.

Currently, only 3.5 per cent of councillors in the UK are under 30 years of age. "I think that experienced councillors are always essential but younger, zealous people can and should get involved with their local communities to have a voice and help make a difference.

He added: "As I love and am proud to live in Radcliffe, I am increasingly distressed at the level of rubbish, graffiti and nuisance behaviour that residents are forced to put up with locally and I want to do what I can, however little, to improve people's lives."

Currently, Stuart Penketh is the youngest councillor, having won the Radcliffe North seat last year at the age of 25.

Radcliffe West councillor Tony Isherwood holds the record as the youngest-ever person to be elected in the borough, winning his seat in May 1985 - aged 22.

Sam Hurst a young I don't know what I stand for tory, the youngest ever councillor,ye right!!! Let me tel you Labour will claim victory in radcliffe east! Not a party and a candidate that say anything and do anything to get elected! The tories have no interest in young people, this is just there way of showing to the electorate they are on young people's side, are they heck! Bob Bibby just cares about bragging about the fact he runs the council, its time Bibby and his cronnies came to there senses, the electorate can not wait to see the back of the tories!!!!
Bibby is an arrogant man, who we need to get rid of!!!!

I read your comment on " Sam Hurst a young I dont know what I stand for tory, the youngest ever councillor, yeah right! "
I,ve been waiting for this moment to say what I have to say... EAT YOUR WORDS, you should be ashamed of yourself!
He may be young, but he,s just proved that with hard work, and dedication and doing something that he believes in WORKS.
He is NOW the youngest councellor, and I bet he does a better job than the "older" candidates.
He won because he fought hard and well.
UNLIKE labour who just assumed they,d win because there known in this town...rubbish! I used to vote labour, the candidates where false, arrogant liars who did nothing to improve or change anything. Now I,m a conservative, and why? Because labour has done NOTHING, except foul up in everyway.
All I can say now is, who ever wrote that comment should be ashamed of the labour policies and take note that no matter how old or YOUNG a person is... its what they believe in that matters.
Well done Sam and all his colleagues for your victory win.

Congratulations Councillor Sam Hurst on your success in Radcliffe East! - I know Sam will do everything possible he can to serve all of his Constituents to the best his your ability.

Sam Hurst can become an example to other young people to become involved in politics and that age is not a barrier, as long as you are willing to work hard and represent constituents.

What saddens me is the typical old political attitude to knock for no real reason except to be negative, making personal attacks benefits no one, it is that attitude that young people now want to Change it is truly the politics of The Past!
