Bus pass challenge for the Over 60s
 |
| The new National Travel Card |
A BUS pass contest has been set up to encourage the over-60s to take part in a national adventure.
From April 1, anyone aged 60 and over and who is eligible for free bus travel, can take part in the Buss Pass Challenge.
Those wanting to take part are asked to see how far they can travel using local bus services and how long it takes them.
All those who join in the challenge could win one of three accolades - You've Come So Far Award, Travel for Charity Award and Carbon Footprint Hero Award.
The challenge is free to enter and will run until October 31.
For information visit www.buspasschallenge.co.uk.

How on earth are our public tranport systems ever going to get any better, when a large proportion of users don't pay anything towards it's upkeep and improvements?
I strongly disagree with free travel for anyone.
Everyone should pay the same amount regardless of age.

The trains and buses are already subsidised, most travel empty between rush hours, might as well put them to better use, travel and tourism go together, can,t wait to see how far i can get in a day.

The Council tax payer and the Income tax payer do pay for the free travel for the over 60's.
Most over 60's still pay both taxes even those on state pension. They have the worst state pensions in Europe when compared with the average wage.(25% in the UK average in Europe (including the UK's pitiful amount) is 66%.
So any help they get is helpful but better still would be a state pension where people did not have to rely on "Freebies".

I'm with Werty, let's see how far we can get.

I worked out, from info on the internet,
how long it will take me from Bury to my brother's house in Morecambe by "local buses", and by the time I get there it will be time to say, "Hello, I must be going". I can get there by car in just over an hour, so long distance travel (in this case 55 miles) is a non-starter.
