Hurst sick of fighting drop

GLYNN Hurst says the club must rid themselves of a small-club complex if they are to do more than simply survive next season.

The Shakers striker has been with the club for nearly 18 months and has fought two successive battles against relegation.

Though signs are good that the current campaign will not go down to the wire, as it has in the previous two seasons, the 32-year-old believes big changes are needed if long overdue success is to some to Gigg Lane.

"You do get fed up of constant survival battles," Hurst said.

"If you stay in your comfort zone, that's all you will ever be. We'll just survive every year and nothing more.

"We can't just say oh we're Bury Football Club', we have to demand better than we have given in recent years."

But Hurst believes that Alan Knill's arrival has helped shake off a few of the cobwebs that had been lingering around the squad in recent months.

"He has got new ideas, a new way of doing things and that has made us all think," the striker said.

"I do think that if we can carry on the impetus the gaffer has given us since he came in, with new signings and a new assistant manager, that can move the club forward."

Trouble is Bury Fc is a small town club. The people of Bury have little or no interest in the football club. The people of Bury must decide if they want a football club, if not maybe BFC should consider relocating or changing the name of the club to gain added interest.
The new name for the club(Manchester North End).

In response to the comment above there are enough people in Bury and outside of the town who support Bury and it is upto the club to do more to bring fans back to watch Bury. Marketing and other initiatives to keep existing fans happy and bring in new fans need to be looked at. When Bury have been doing well on the field we have had more fans coming through the turnstiles but we could and should have a whole lot more. It is up to the club and local media services to try and do this in tandem with each other!!

Manchester North End? That is as bad as some director or buyer in Mansfield wanting to re-name that club as Harchester United. No wonder that club is in difficulties.
