A POPULAR Bury nursery school has bade a fond farewell to one of its original staff members.
Mrs Doris Boardman has retired after 34 years at Hoyle nursery and children's centre which is based in Chesham Fold Road.
Since originally appointed in December, 1974, the 63-year-old worked as a school secretary, lunchtime supervisor and as a teaching assistant and has also worked with special needs children.
Over the years, Mrs Boardman has witnessed a number of significant changes to the nursery school which has increased and expanded its services.
Today, Hoyle caters for babies and children up to the age of four and provides before and after school care for five days a week.
Married with one daughter and living in Pimhole, Bury, she said: "There has certainly been a lot of extra input and a lot more for parents introduced during the 34 years.
"Because of the number of years I've worked here, I see many former nursery school children who used to be here and their children too."
At a special retirement buffet, Mrs Boardman was presented with a card on behalf of all the children together with vouchers and a plant. Local authority-run Hoyle's caters for more than 100 children and has around 20 staff.
