PATIENTS will be able to see doctors in the evenings and at weekends when two new health centres open their doors.
Extra GPs will be available from April next year at Moorgate Primary Care Centre, in The Rock, Bury, and Radcliffe Primary Care Centre, in Church Street West, Radcliffe, which are both under construction.
As well as offering the core GP services during extended opening hours, Moorgate will provide a walk-in service and appointments for both registered and non-registered patients.
Barbara Barlow, a patient representative who has been involved in the initiative, said: "I believe the two new centres will be strategically placed to give convenient, additional access to health services, for a large percentage of the population, complementing existing services when other GP surgeries are closed. This will help to reduce visits to A & E for less serious cases."
