A BURY bar has been allowed to stay open despite being closed twice in seven months for violent disorder.

Senior police officers had shut down Lush Bar in Haymarket Street following a fight on April 12, where it is believed three men were stabbed and another was beaten unconscious.

The bar staff did not report the incident, which was caught on CCTV, which only came to the police's attention when they confronted a bloodied victim nearby.

Police had previously closed the bar last October following violence, when it was under different management.

Councillors at Tuesday's licensing panel say Lush can now re-open, but it must close its doors at 11pm, rather than 4am.

Councillor Yvonne Creswell, one of the three-strong panel, said: "I watched the CCTV footage and it was horrendous. In the past it has had a dreadful reputation, but the people running it now have only done so for six weeks, and we're giving them the opportunity to clean the place up. We were told they want to open it as a bistro, so we are letting them stay open but they have to close every night at 11pm."

Coun Creswell added: "The designated premises manager has to be replaced. They also have to up their security and put a CCTV screen at the back of the bar so it can be seen by all staff and door people."

So glad the bar has re-opened as the new owners have done a brillant job renovating the place and creating a good atomsphere. The Police and press have used this bar as a publicity stunt to show Zero tolerance in bury and yet other bars in bury have major problems and the police don't close them down?? because they worry about the legal cost but pick on a small new business to gain election points. I have been to the bar since the new owners took over and the staff and managers are so friendly and make you feel at home.Shame gave them to 11PM should have been at least 2AM.

I and my friends have attended the lush bar on many occasions during the past few weeks. I find it to be a very nice place to go for a night out I even had my hen party there and there was absolutely no trouble we had an amazing night. I think that bad publicity the bar is getting is completely untrue and unfair. Peter Doherty you seem to have obviously done this article just to get a story without really having all the right facts. It would be a good idea next time you want to do an article to actually know what you’re talking about and have evidence for this.

I used to go to the Lush Bar some time ago with my friends & after a while the atmosphere changed from friendly & welcoming to clicky & intimidating. I havent been in since. This comment has no reflection on the new owners as like Ive said I havent been in but I wish them every success as it does have the potential to be a really good night spot in Bury

I am really glad to hear that Lush has reopened, as before it was closed down I used to attend it regularly and there was never any trouble. It was one of the only clubs in Bury where I didn’t feel like the oldest person there (considering I am only 26!). I wish the new owners the best of luck.
