GILLINGHAM boss Mark Stimson has dropped the strongest hint yet that Shakers target Efe Sodje could be on his way to Gigg Lane.

Having released six players, the recently-relegated Gills are desperate to offload more.

Sodje had already been told the defender is not part of the first-team plans at Priestfield, but Stimson left little doubt about his intention to clear the decks with a brief statement earlier this week.

"There are still one or two around us who we would like to shift but they still have contracts which makes it a little harder," said the Gills boss.

"I'm hoping by the time pre-season comes they will have gone."

Alan Knill is keen to talk numbers with the former Nigeria World Cup star, who impressed while on loan at the end of last season.
