A TERRIFIED couple were attacked by thugs who attempted to steal their car in Prestwich.

The male suffered bruising to the body and he and his wife were left "extremely shaken" by the incident which happened on Bury Old Road at the weekend. The two raiders escaped empty handed.

Police say the couple were targeted at 10.20pm on Saturday when the duo had tried to steal the couple's car. One of the offenders pushed the woman out of the way while both men demanded the car keys from her husband.

Both thugs attacked the man who defended himself. A short time later, the would-be robbers ran off to a car nearby which sped off towards Sheepfoot Lane and Scholes Lane.

Police say the two males are white, about 5ft 8in of slim build and aged in their early 20s. They were wearing light coloured grey tops with the hoods up and dark coloured pants.

Just how many times does this need to happen? From Hollins to Prestwich is carjacking central and has been for the last 3 years or so. What is being done to prevent it? I can see nothing different, no extra surveillance equipment, no extra police patrols so what steps are being taken? I don't live anywhere near the place and it still annoys me because it's such an obvious problem for the area.

The government should provide more social clubs, so the robbers have something to do instead of stealing.

I don't think it is the governments job to set up social clubs for "males who are white, about 5ft 8in of slim build and aged in their early 20s". What is needed is a police presence that is apparent to any potential wrong do'ers.

More policing would be an advantage, and less desk jockeys!!!
