6:06pm Thursday 8th November 2012 in News
TWENTY-FOUR people were treated by paramedics following a fire at Alpha Hospital.
Fifty firefighters from across Greater Manchester tackled the blaze, off Buller Street, Elton after it is thought a patient caused the fire on the roof of the building at around 4.30pm today, Thursday.
Nobody was taken to hospital but triage staff treated 24 of the 50 residents at the scene.
The fire damage was caused to around 100 square metres of the roof in the Forest Wood building.
Police, the fire service and the North West Ambulance Service are still at the scene.
The hospital, which cares for patients with mental health need, remains cordoned off with access only being given to emergency services and staff.
Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene throughout the night.
A fire service spokesman said the cause is still under investigation.
Police are investigating.

To all those people who have posted negative comments:
I know some of the nursing staff and the Directors who work at Alpha Bury, Woking and Shefield and trust me they are the best and work day and night to help and give the support needed to the patients whom are in the secure units.
These nursing staff, Doctors and Directors are the finest, so stop dissing the people and the place and get on with your lives.... Fair enough security might not be up to scratch.. The security team are always working on issues which arise.....

We visited in excess of 40 times in the last few months - never were we searched, nor items we bought in checked.
As the hospital caters for a mix of behaviours including arsonists and self harmers I was amazed by the lack of proper proceedures. I'm glad no-one was injured , but frankly not surprised this occurred.
