A NEW £2 million arts centre development is on track for Bury Grammar School for Girls.

Barclays has revealed it is backing the project with a “revolving credit facility” to enable completion of the new building in time for the academic year starting in September.

According to the school, the design for the new arts centre is “inspiring,” skilfully relocating various departments into the centre of the school.

It will feature a library housed on two floors and an art suite.

Bury Grammar says it will transform the school building, enhance the education of students and, in the future, provide amenities to showcase the school’s heritage.

Andrew Ingham, relationship director leading Barclays corporate banking deal team, said: “Barclays is proud to have been Bury Grammar Schools’ principal bankers for more than 20 years and acknowledges the important part that they have and continue to play within the Bury community.

“Over the years they have educated many successful businessmen and women who have gone on to hold senior positions throughout the UK and we are confident that the latest developments will help maintain their position of excellence.”

Headmistress of Bury Grammar School for Girls, Mrs Bobby Georghiou, added: “The schools have an on-going programme to update and maintain our premises to a very high standard.

“In the coming years, we will continue to bring on stream further state-of-the-art facilities which will serve to enhance our pupils’ experience.”
