Blockbuster goes into administration

DVD and video games rental firm Blockbuster UK has gone into administration, putting more than 4,000 jobs at risk.

Deloitte, which is handling the administration, said the collapse was driven by competition from internet firms and digital streaming of movies and games.

Blockbuster has shops in Bury, Radcliffe, Bolton, Horwich, Westhoughton and Walkden.

The Uxbridge-based business opened its first store in London in 1989 and now trades from 528 outlets employing 4,190 staff.

It's not obviously good for more people to lose jobs but as personally as far as Blockbusters and the other video\DVD rental outlets go I'm surprised they have remained in business for so long.

i'm very surprised they have lasted this long, i thought they would have into liquidation a couple of years ago after not breaking into the online streaming market like lovefilm and netflix
