Why wouldn't we just lock them up for the fun of it?

Yes agreed the amount of people and charges I would of thought would put a big hole in the supply chain around Bury however unfortunately that hole will be filled by other dealers quickly enough I ?expect. What do you do?

As much as I'd like to celebrate this article this will only increase the price of Class A drugs in the area and also dealers from other areas will step in. Supply & Demand.

It's about time all drugs were decriminalised and addicts were treated for health issues rather than as Criminals. Prohibition does not work.

Decriminalise drugs?
Do not be silly.
The drugs classed illegal are illegal for a simole reason: they injure people and, by the same definition, society.

Tobacco injures people and that's not illegal?

Alcohol is far more dangerous than any "illegal" Drug yet as soiety ontinuously throw Advertising intoour childrens faces on a regular basis and deem this tobe socially acceptable.

* Decriminalising Drugs will allow addicts to be treated for their issues rather than punished.

* Police resources (already outstretched) can focus on other crimes massively on the increase such as Cyber Crime.

* Taking these drugs off the black market will drastically reduce the "high" prices addicts pay thus reducing other crimes such as Theft/Robbery.

* You get an illness at the moment and you go to your G.P
Addicts are becoming ill and we as society send them to Prison.
True many have the choice to initially take drugs but this is where our Education system and Poor Parenting is failing our Children who become Addicts in their teens.

* Many friends I grew up with are now Dead due to Heroin/Crack abuse and don't you find it strange how I want it decriminalising?
Because the punishment we as society gave them was part of the spiral into Depression (thus more drug abuse) and then low employment prospects and so on from the result of Criminal Records.

* Addicts are Sick, No police officer with his truncheon or Prison Guard will fix these sick individuals...

*Please Note* it's far easier obtaining these drugs into Prison than it is on the street.

steSteez......and all very good arguments for legalisation but I've also seen examples of what happens when the authorities have decriminilised pot smoking. If we legalise it's throwing in the towel and will be sending the wrong message to people much the same as what has happened with alcohol which you have correctly stated as being dangerous.
.
Mistakes have been made many years ago in relation to alcohol let's learn from others mistakes not make the same ones again.
