Artist is picture of success

BURY painter Malcolm Lucas is certainly enjoying a “brush” with success after his works featured at two separate exhibitions in the same building.

The 70-year-old had four of his paintings on show at Bury Art Gallery during a two-month exhibition by the Bury Art Society, of which he is a member.

And before the society event came to an end, Malcolm launched his own exhibition at the Moss Street gallery which will run until April.

“I’ve been a member of Bury Art Society for about 16 years and during its exhibition I was awarded the people’s prize which is voted for by visitors,” he said.

He added: “The Art Gallery has a new policy to let artists show their work. I asked to have my own exhibition and after a wait I’m now displaying 18 paintings, mostly acrylics.

“They are primarily landscapes and figurative paintings.”

Malcolm, of Manchester Road, Shuttleworth, has been painting seriously for 15 years and some of his works have been snapped up by art lovers who have visited his studio.
