A MAN has been charged after two police officers were injured in Harpurhey.
Wayne Crompton, aged 36, of Kenmore Way, Whitefield was charged with two counts of section 18 assault, dangerous driving, aggravated taking without consent, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance.
He is due before Manchester Magistrates Court this morning.
A 49-year-old man arrested was released without charge.
At about 10.50pm on Sunday two police officers pulled over what is believed to have been a red Hyundai on Rochdale Road in Harpurhey that was travelling at excess speed.
However, as the two officers got out to approach the car the vehicle reversed - colliding with one officers, before driving forward and colliding with the other. The car then drove off.
Both officers were taken to hospital for treatment. One of the officers has sustained a broken arm which will need surgery. The other officer has suffered a fractured skull and bleed to the brain, and remains in a stable condition although his injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
