Eight people arrested in more drugs raids

EIGHT people were arrested after a series of dawn drugs raids across Bury yesterday.

Shortly after 6am, dozens of police officers, some using sniffer dogs, executed search warrants on seven homes in Radcliffe, Bury and Ramsbottom.

Addresses targeted were in Stand Rise and Spenser Avenue in Radcliffe; Alfred Street, Pimhole; Goldfinch Drive, Freetown; Whitefield Road, Bury; Fir Street, Peel Brow; and Thompson Avenue in Ainsworth. All eight people were taken into police custody and were last night being questioned by officers on suspicion of dealing drugs.

Chief Supt Caroline Ball, said: “We continue to target those concerned in the sale and supply of Class A drugs across Bury. I hope these arrests show the community we are committed in our fight against organised crime.”

Among those watching the raids was Mayor of Bury, Cllr Joan Grimshaw, and councillors. Police carried out similar swoops earlier this month and 11 people were charged with drug offences.

All well and good arresting them but when are people going to wake up and put in place real deterents for people involved in the supply of drugs. The death penalty seems to work in other countries so why not here? You won't have to spend thousands keeping them in prison and one thing you can be certain about is that they won't offend again!
