CHEFS-in-the-making from Bury College swept aside rivals in a prestigious cooking competition.

Catering and hospitality students succeeded in all areas of the Le Culinaire Francais Inter College Cook and Serve Competition held at the Manchester College in Didsbury to become the most successful team in the history of the competition.

Five students competed against leading North West colleges and won the gold medal in the kitchen and overall category, and a bronze award for restaurant service.

Adam Crosbie, aged 19, a former pupil at Castlebrook High School from Bury, who is studying level three professional cookery, said, “It was a really good experience taking part in the competition.

“My Bury College course and the skills I’ve learnt with the guidance and support from my tutors helped us stand out to win the medals.”

Another student, Jessica Humphreys,, aged 18, from Bolton, who is studying a level two diploma in professional cookery, received a gold award in the pastry and confectionery category.

Jessica earned her medal for creating a trio of desserts, including lemon meringue pie, chocolate truffle and blackcurrant bavarois.

Jessica said: “I was nervous competing in this category and shocked to win.

“I’m really pleased to win because the standard was so high.”

Mo Daho, assistant curriculum manager in catering at Bury College added, “I’m over the moon at the student’s success, especially when I saw their final dishes that were really professional.

“Well done and best wishes to them all, I am sure they will do well in their future careers.”
