FIFTEEN years after her daughter was brutally murdered, a grieving Bury mum has made a fresh appeal to catch the killer.

Sex worker Julie Jones was just 32 when she was found lying dead under bushes at Old Smithfield Market in Manchester city centre on July 3, 1998.

Her naked body, found wrapped in carpet, had severe injuries consistent with being viciously attacked.nvestigation, the murder of the mother-of-two remains unsolved.

Julie’s mother Theresa Hulme, aged 72, of Willow Street, said: “It hasn’t got any easier, it is always something which never goes away. Every day I still think about her.”

The former lollipop lady, whose daughter is buried in Bury, went on: “She was such a popular girl and her life was wasted, apart from her two children.”

Julie was brought up in Abergele, Wales, until Theresa left her father, Kenneth Jones, and moved to Bury when her daughter was eight years old.

She was educated at St Marie’s Primary School and Derby High.

Theresa said: “She got in with the wrong crowd when she was about 28 and then she started on the drugs. She had moved to Manchester and I had the two boys, Josh was 17 months and Dale was 13.

Dale and Josh, now aged 28 and 17, grew up without knowing their mum. Now Theresa hopes Julie’s murderer can be found.

She added: “People will know who has done this to my daughter and it’s for them to have a conscience and get in touch with the police.”

Martin Bottomley, head of investigative review at Greater Manchester Police’s major and cold case crime units, said: “Take Julie’s lifestyle out of the equation — this is about a mum desperately seeking the truth about her daughter’s killing and living in hope her murderer will finally be brought to justice.

“Any new leads will be acted upon and that crucial bit of information could help us find whoever was responsible so I would implore anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
