MUSICALLY minded young-sters had the chance to “Get Back” to the 1960s by performing a play focusing on the worldwide success of The Beatles.

About 40 children, aged between five and 13, turned back the clock to recreate the lives and music of the Fab Four thanks to a successful Summer School Ticket to Ride event.

The Bury Grammar Schools’ Theatre Week took place over five days and culminated with the youngsters staging their own performance which includes a clutch of Beatles classics.

Those behind the summer school event were Holly Hammond, head of drama at the senior Girls Grammar School, and Claire Banfield, head of Year Seven at the same school.

Mrs Banfield, who wrote the script for the one-hour show, said: “The children all learned their parts for the play as well as dancing and made their own props and false guitars. The story was based on the Beatles, how the group was formed and how it ended.”

Each scene focused on a significant element of the Beatles story, including how John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr conquered America in 1964, through the group’s eventual break-up in 1970.

The summer school event was at the kindergarten.
