Die-hard FC United fan misses game to get married
A football fan met his match on Saturday — when he gave his beloved FC United a miss.
Steve Morgan confessed it was a difficult decision but dutifully chose to tie the knot with Kath Whiteley at a ceremony held at Ramsbottom Civic Hall on Saturday instead of watching the big game on the same day.
The team, who play the majority of their home fixtures at Gigg Lane, convincingly won their match against Stamford 6-0, much to the chagrin of Mr Morgan.
However the couple, who are both regular home and away FC United supporters, did manage to see their team play on Monday when they travelled to Urmston to see them score a late winner to defeat Trafford 3-2.
Kath, aged 58, said: “He was gutted, but we went to the match on Monday at Trafford though so that made up for it.”
“It was absolutely perfect in every way, and we had the most fabulous day. We had to go through a lot of planning but it was worth it.”
The couple met three years ago and decided to get married in April, and are now ready to settle at their home on Grange Road in Elton.
They surprised the 90 guests at their wedding when they were picked up by a coach and taken to Heywood train station, where they boarded the East Lancs Railway to Ramsbottom and enjoyed canapes and champagne.
Steve, aged 57, added: “It was really good. We really enjoyed the day and everything went to plan. It was good to see them win on Monday.”
