Shirley pioneers piloxing craze in Prestwich
A FITNESS pioneer is “dancing” all over the competition after bringing a new and little-known fitness craze to Prestwich.
One of just 4,500 certified instructors worldwide, Shirley Sadler is north Manchester’s only teacher of “piloxing” – an interval training programme which blends boxing, pilates and dance.
Whitefield resident Shirley believes the all-round muscle-toning workout is set to grow massively in popularity.
Shirley, of Berwick Avenue, said: “It is my job to discover and harness new crazes, but because I work only with women I make decisions based on what I know the ladies will love.
“I started teaching Zumba four years ago and back then no one had heard of it but it has taken off and become immensely successful — piloxing is sure to go the same way.
“I have more than 14 years experience in fitness. It was always something I was going to do as a career and I pride myself on helping women get fit while having a great time.”
Piloxing, founded by Swedish dancer Viveca Jensen, incorporates interval and barefoot workouts and also involves using weighted gloves to tone the arms.
The exercise, to fast music, is said to improve cardiovascular health, burn calories and fat, and increase stamina.
One advocate is Mandy Malady, who last year made the headlines after losing 12 stones in weight.
She said: “These classes are amazing and the atmosphere is electric in class.
“Shirley is a truly inspirational lady who has helped many women turn their lives around.”
Shirley’s classes take place at Parrenthorn High school in Heywood Road on Mondays and Thursdays at 7pm with a new class to launch on Wednesdays at 7pm on September 11.
No booking is necessary and classes cost £4.50 for an hour. Go to herfitness.co.uk
