Park public toilets will only open at weekends
4:12pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
BUDGET cuts have been blamed for the closure of toilets at Bury’s parks on weekdays.
Bury Council decided that toilets would only be opened at weekends, following a reduction in the number of park rangers, who used to open them.
It has led to fears that fewer people will visit the parks when the toilets are closed.
Conservative councillor, Ian Bevan, asked about the toilets, particularly those at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom, at a meeting of the full council last week.
Council leader Cllr Mike Connolly said: “That issue has been raised not just for Ramsbottom, but the whole of the borough. It’s a direct effect of the savings we are having to make.
“I have been charged with making huge cuts to our budget and things have to be taken out, things have to be sacrificed. It’s regrettable that we have to do that.”
