16-year-old Radcliffe girl Zoe Hodkinson wins first Is This Talent? show in Bolton
IT was billed as one of the most glamorous judging panels ever to have sat on a stage.
And star judges Bolton actress Helen Flanagan, Radcliffe model, Rhian Sugden, Greek-born Irish model Georgia Salpa and PR worker and event organiser Paul Alistair, were wowed by the talent on show in Bolton.
“Is This Talent”, which was held at the Albert Halls on Monday, was also filmed as a pilot for a new television show.
Mr Alistair, a 30-year-old PR worker, and colleague Barry Barlow, from Bolton, handpicked the seven acts ranging from singers, dancers, comedians and fire dancers, to perform live on stage in front of an audience for the pilot programme, compered by Key 103 presenter Darren Proctor.
And Radcliffe teenager, Zoe Hodkinson, was crowned winner when she performed a song she wrote when she was aged just 13.
The 16-year-old performed an acoustic performance of her song, which former Coronation Street star Helen called “heartfelt and beautiful”.
Model Rhian also showed her support, saying “She’s like a little Alanis Morissette”.
Zoe was the final contestant to take to the stage and won over the hearts of all four judges with her music and singing.
Helen, aged 23, said: “I can’t believe you’re 16.”
Glamour model Rhian, aged 26 added: “ You’ve got a really amazing voice.”
Second place went to opera singer, Jennifer Coleman, and burlesque fire dancing duo Satine Animus came third.
Zoe was speechless when she received the first place award.
She said: “I feel very happy. Thank you so much to the judges and the audience.”
The show, which is a pilot for a late night TV talent show billed as a “sexier Britain’s Got Talent” kept up this reputation by drafting in three celebrities who have all appeared in reality shows.
Helen recently starred in Celebrity Super Spa and is a former I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant, and Rhian and Georgia have both appeared in Celebrity Big Brother.
Talking about why she agreed to do the show, Helen said: “Because I'm from Bolton, when I got the request from my agent, I thought, that’s where I’m from so I’ll do it. My whole family is from Bolton.
“I really enjoy all those kind of shows, like X Factor.
“Reality TV, even though I’m an actress, does have its place and this is the era we’re at. I do like to do both.”
Rhian added: “I’ve always wanted to be a judge, although I don’t want to be the nasty one.
“So when they contacted my agent, I thought, why not? I thought it would be a laugh.”
Georgia said: “I love reality shows, that’s just it now — they’re everywhere.”
