Bury Post Office open longer on Saturday
SATURDAY opening hours at Bury’s main post office are to be extended after it is given a makeover.
Post Office bosses have decided to revamp the facility, at 79 The Rock, to make it bigger and better.
The post office is due to close at 5.30pm on November 4 and remain shut until 1pm on November 15.
From then on, it will have a new, open-plan layout and a European-style ticketed queuing system allowing customers to sit while they wait.
There will be five service windows, a low-level service counter for people in wheelchairs and a hearing loop for people with hearing impairments. The Post Office’s regional network manager Adrian Wales said: “The change to this branch is part of a three-year investment and support programme — the largest in the history of the Post Office — which will see around 6,000 branches converting to new-style branches.
“Our aim is to create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers. The same wide range of products and services will be provided.”
The Rock branch is currently open from 9am to 5.30pm on weekdays and from 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
After the refurbishment, it will keep the same opening times on weekdays, and open until 5.30pm on Saturdays.
During the makeover, customers can use Walmersley Post Office in Walmersley Road and Ainsworth Road Post Office in Ainsworth Road.
Mr Wales added: “I’m happy to answer any questions people may have about the new service.
