RESIDENTS in Hollins want developers to reconsider a controversial housing plan.

Morris Homes has asked Bury Council for permission to build 21 houses on site, off Haweswater Crescent.

So far, 22 people have formally objected to the proposal, claiming traffic will increase and there could be road safety problems.

Some objectors say they are not opposed to the proposal, but want Morris Homes to change the access point to Church Meadow.

One of the houses would have three bedrooms and the others would have four or more bedrooms, with 65 parking spots created. A Morris Homes report to the council says: “It’s a good location with links to Bury and Manchester centres and is near to Hollins Grundy Primary School and Castlebrook High School.Community facilities such as pubs and shops are close to the site.”

A neighbour said: “If access was to be via the existing car park entrance, there would be no increase in traffic.”

But he said, if Haweswater Crescent was used as an access point as proposed there would be “a large increase in traffic on a residential road when there is an alternative”.

He added: “There are visibility problems with the proposed exit on to Haweswater Crescent.”

Objectors have also raised concerns about drainage and security. The consultation period ends on December 20 and the council aims to reach a decision by February 24.
